Obituary of David K. Flood
Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
August 18, 2024 - David K. Flood, 61, died, peacefully, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania surrounded by his loving family after a multi-year complicated course of illness and surgeries.
David’s early years were spent as a sports-playing, fun-loving kid on Air Force bases, notably McGuire in New Jersey. One of his favorite memories from this time featured a young, small David as the clear underdog in a contentious karate championship match. He would gleefully recount his valiant fight and ultimate victory and he was certain the Karate Kid movie was inspired by this event.
His teen years were spent getting up to hijinks and shenanigans with his brother and his buddies in West Windsor, NJ. He graduated from West Windsor Plainsboro South High School and attended Mercer County Community College. In his early 20’s he was a butcher and deli service person and had many great stories from his years at Lapidus Market in Plainsboro, NJ.
He worked various NJ State and private jobs before landing at Educational Testing Service (ETS) where he would begin his foray into Data Warehousing and Master Data Management. It was also at ETS where he would meet his future wife Barbara and dazzle her with his famous and beautiful dimples.
David obtained a BS from Thomas Edison State College and was later honored as a fellow with the Data Warehouse Institute. He honed his skills at Oracle and Rhodia during which time he was able to enjoy many business excursions to Paris, France. He has devoted the last 20 years of his career to Novo Nordisk as the well-loved and respected Director of Master Data Management where he protected and enhanced the business and nurtured the careers of many young professionals.
In the late 1980’s David successfully managed his father Jack Flood’s township committee campaign in West Windsor. A few years later he himself would go on to be elected and re-elected to serve 7 years on the Hamilton Township council.
He was especially proud of his time coaching his son Troy’s baseball teams for the Nottingham Little League. His most memorable year was leading Troy’s C-League team to win the league championship. David treasured his Coach Dave championship jacket.
He enthusiastically attended his daughter’s cheer competitions at Hamilton Starz, and Steinert High School and was filled with pride to witness her cheering at Rutgers University football and basketball games.
David embarked on many wonderful vacations with his wife and children. He most cherished his precious time spent with family at their vacation home on Long Beach Island, NJ. He loved the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Mets and was a long-time season-ticket holder to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights football games.
Despite many physical challenges like childhood asthma and rheumatoid arthritis David’s glass was always half full and he strove to find that silver lining in every cloud. He was a happy prankster, and a bright light who will be fiercely missed by many.
David is survived by his parents Jack and Linda Flood, his loving wife of 33 years Barbara (Larkin), his daughter Sarah Lupo (husband Sean), his son Troy, his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Ava and Carter Lupo, his sister Stephanie Foy (husband Kevin), his brother John (wife Kim), his nephews and nieces Kelsey Foy Saraiya (husband Mitresh), Kevin Foy, Danielle Flood (husband Clifford Steichen), and John Flood, Esq.
