Obituary of Joan R. Sammons

Joan Ruth Sammons, 93, went home to the Lord June 24, 2024 with her loving family surrounding her.
Joan was born on May 21,1931 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Lawrence and Ruth (née Illig) Bedinghaus. She met the love of her life while working in a department store in Cincinnati, Richard William Sammons who passed away in 2003. Sister to Carol Newhart (Tom) who passed in 2020.
Joan was a beautiful person and was loved by many. Her and Richard established a wonderful life for their family. She had a tremendous career which led her down many paths; from working for priests in Cincinnati, being the owner of a Bressler’s Ice Cream Store, and leading the Ladies Auxiliary for the Knights of Columbus in Dayton, Ohio. When she lived in Florida she volunteered for Hospice and local charities. She was a member of the St. Raphael-Holy Angels choir, as well as, an Eucharistic Minister once moving to New Jersey. She most recently discovered her love of art in her painting. She lived a long full life, which she shared with others.
Joan is survived by her four children: Dianne (Michael) Matthews, Richard (Jaqueline) Sammons, Jeffrey (Michelle) Sammons, Christopher (Frances) Sammons. Her 9 grandchildren and their spouses: Michael Scott (Michele), Christopher and Jennifer Matthews, Jessica (Justin) Doles, Ashley (Michael) Prokop, Jordan (Bridget), Kyle (Stephanie), Justin and Erica Sammons. Her 18 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and also her cousin, Lois.
Joan was loved by many special friends and extended family, especially: Mary Matthews, Debra Reeves Gierke and her children, and the late Alberta (Bootie) and Albert Reeves.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 10:30 AM at St.Raphael’s Church, 3500 S. Broad St., Hamilton, NJ.
Private cremation will follow.
Relatives and friends may visit on Friday from 6 to 8 PM and on Saturday from 9 to 10 AM at Kingston & Kemp Funeral Home, 260 White Horse Ave., Hamilton, NJ (KingstonandKemp.com).
